...when you make CS by the electrical process most of us use, it actually
has a percentage of particles along with the ions. percentage varies, but
on the big picture averages probably around 15%.
those particles will tend to stick together and grow into larger particles
over time. the yellow will eventually get darker, and at some point the
particles will get heavy enough to fall to the bottom, and the liquid will
again be clear...probably more crystal clear that it ever was.
at this point, if you filter the solution through a few layers of coffee
filter paper several passes your clear solution will probably be dead stable
thereafter and almost totally ionic.
i use 24 liter bottles, and the CS i'm drinking is always about 2 months
old. i drink a bottle in about 5 days or less, and give some away too. it
was filtered approx. weekly at least 4 times, taking it to crystal clear,
and has remained stable for a month. i make more as fast as i use it, and
while brewing i filter whatever bottles need it. i watch for fallout in the
bottom to decide if it needs it.

when filtering, i use 4 layers, and do the bottles in pairs, since that's
how they're made (a batch is brewed in a 2 liter jar) and the date of
brewing and each successive filtering is on the bottle with a sharpie. i
use 2 funnels in 2 temp bottles. i filter the pair into the temp bottles,
then discard the top layer of paper and add a fresh bottom layer before
filtering again back into the original bottles. i move to the next pair to
be filtered without changing the top paper until it's in the temp bottles.

i do all this because i overbrew the CS until i can't get it any stronger,
and it comes out thickly brownish black by the time it's up to about
32-34ppm. when it seems done, i filter it and brew again. all the
filtering generally takes it down to 28-32ppm, as some ions get pulled into
becoming part of the particles. the more intermediate filtering and
re-brewing i do, the less the ppm drops from filtering... been wondering why
that is.

it might not be at all necessary to go to all the work to make it so strong,
and would be much easier to stop while it's clear and end up with 10-14ppm.
it seems effectiveness when it's at least 10-14ppm might be as good as
stronger, and the key is actually frequency and volume of doses. but i do
it anyway...i might be addicted or something.

  Subject: CS>Re: CS turning yellow?

Made a batch of CS about 10 days ago. It is in a clear glass bottle in a
brown paper bag in my kitchen cabinet. Turns out that it is ionic silver.
It was clear as water at first but now it is turning yellow.

  Why is this? thanks.
