The cool thing about "mushrooms" is you can take any part of one and make
more of them.
Every cell is a complete seed and offspring are clones.
How they manage to organize identical cells into functional organs is like
a miracle...not sure that anyone has figured that one out.
Might all be environment triggered retrovertible stem cells?
Terrence Macenna had some interesting views on mushroom intelligence and
