Sounds as though there might be a negative reaction to the filling. Could there be an infection inside the tooth?
The Natural Dentist has a great mouthwash, if the child can gargle without swallowing. Oil swishing (also known as oil pulling) is highly effective -- if the child can hold and swish sesame or sunflower in the mouth for 15 minutes without swallowing. Google it.
