Hi Wayne,

If you are referring to Electrical Conductivity and not being able to read particle content then, yeah, I am familiar with that, not an expert, but am familiar. I also don't put 100% faith in the meters sold as ppm meters either but I can get a good idea of what I am producing though which is the best I can do 'in house', so to speak, without using AAS method.

It's odd that you mention 'measure EC and calculate ppm' as the brother in law brought his solution for me to compare meter readings on the weekend. He uses an EC meter, (I have one also), and I tested it with the Hanna TDS 1 meter, (which is sold as a pre-calibrated CS ppm meter). The jury is still out on that for me however, until I can get an absolute assurance from someone that this is so...perhaps you maybe, I'm open for that assurance?. Now the thing is, he gets a reading of 8ppm...I get a reading of 4ppm on the Hanna...then I calculate using one of the popular, (seemingly), calculation methods ie; subtract original reading, if any, (which in his case was 3.5 straight out of the bottle), from the resultant ppm on completion of 'brewing', (in his case 8ppm), and then multiply by 1.2. If my calculations are correct the answer is 5.52ppm...so we now have 3 answers.

This can be explained I guess due to time lapse and water temperature variables etc, which is why I am slowly becoming more set in my approach to CS by discarding some of the scientific mumbo jumbo, (as wrong as this approach may be interpreted), and to try to keep it simple because unless a lab analysis is done on any ICS all I can do is get an accurate a ppm level as possible, in the home, and using the best measuring meters available which can be used in the home.

At my current level of expertise, (or lack thereof, as the case may be), that's what it's mostly about for me at the moment, producing as good a product as possible, using home based methods/proceedures/measuring devices so that anyone can achieve a fairly good assessment of their own CS as best they can in their own homes without getting caught up in all the hoo-har. My experience, (and yes I agree that it's limited), is that one can be 'all-consumed' by it all, and if I get this feeling then others who may have a desire to get involved with CS would have to get similar feelings. I pursue it, but others may not, and be turned away if you can understand my meaning here. This is why I stated earlier about the love/hate business...I love it, but I hate it at the same time because the more I read about it the more I see the inconsistancy of it. If the average person starts to delve into it too deeply then 'it' starts to leave the 'lay-man' behind and he/she will gradually be turned away, unless he is as dedicated to it as everyone here, or anywhere else, may be.

The public, by and large, have been 'conditioned' to rely on simply going to the Doc, getting a script filled and following the instructions on the bottle. My experience with CS is that nothing could be further from the truth with this stuff.

With the copious amount of information/mis-information/scientific explanations/pros and cons etc etc out there I could have given up on it a long time ago as I am no 'brain child', but I believe, without a doubt, that CS, or derivatives of, is the way to the future. If I want others to become involved, in their own homes, then it needs to be kept relatively simple. People who are of a more analytical mind and have higher academic abilities can pursue it to infinity.

Hope you understand what it is I am trying to say here Wayne.

Neville.

I have never made but ONE Gold Batch, and it was intentionally, in my early days of experimenting.

I used 75 VDC and higher current. I was not sure what happened, but it worked great wonders on the people I gave it too. Maybe my water was marginal also. That was before I learned how to reject water, without any measurements

MY BOGUS PPM meter was broke, and still is.

And I reject some water, but NOT BE MEASURING EC or PPM ! !

Neville, you have not been here long, and we do not have an archives, ( But I do ) or else you would learn something about ppm.

I won't bother you and the list with details, but one simple statement, ..............

My scientists friends say,

"We measure EC and Calculate ppm".

Read between the lines !

One day maybe you will see more about this.

And........ Everyone need to change the subject lines.

It really messes up, MY ARCHIVES !
It does not help the slow readers and the ones that cannot manage their mail.

Wayne
