Morning Dee,

Yep, understood. I can't say too much about supplements but many years ago
when I was a young punk I went back home for a visit and noticed the fridge
contained a number of bottles of various supplements and when I asked my mother
how come the sudden influx of supplements in the house she explained that as
she was getting older she thought she may need to supplement some things, 'just
in case'........she died at 59 with a heart attack.

I'm not blaming the supplements by the way as I couldn't possibly know, but I
picked one and did some asking about it and learned that the particular one I
picked contained several ingredients which all did basically the same thing in
their own individual way, I could not help but be drawn to the thought that as
she was getting this particular ingredient in her normal diet as it was, she
may actually have been getting too much of that particular supplement. I had
to ask myself if this was a wise thing for her to have done? The human body
has some amazing mechanisms if not tampered with too much. I have nothing to
support the view that they may have inadvertantly shortened her life, and I've
nothing against supplements either, but I must admit it did make me think about
it a bit back then, and I still do.

It just gave me some food for thought.

Neville.

The thing is Neville, that *most* if not *all*
substances/vitamins/minerals whatever; will be toxic if in too large doses. Or
even if they are unbalanced this can cause major problems. I have come to the
conclusion now that all the many hundreds of pounds I have spent on supplements
was money wasted because of this fact. One example was that research has been
done recently on Vit D and the health pages have exhorted us to supplement with
this in order to avoid cancer etc., I now find out that it is only the VitD3
form that is good as the other type (D2) which I bought, can actually act as an
immunosuppressant! Yet it is still sold, as are many of the inappropriate
forms of vits and minerals still on the market. I have decided that the only
vit I will supplement with is Vit C. Dee

Thanks for that Teri and Steve, I'll answer you both in one email if
you don't mind.

I'll read through both of these more and do some more searching of the
'ingredients' to see what I come up with as this information could be quite
helpful.

There are predominantly 2 forms of selenium apparently, organic and
inorganic, and also selenium is stated as being a 'relative' of sulpher. With
this information, combined with your and Teri's, and information I haven't
discovered yet I am trying to build a picture of what selenium is, what it does
(exactly), and what other ingredients are included which constitutes the
supplemental form. I found that apparently it's toxic if taken in excess and
some articles accuse it of causing a form of diabeties, I think it was type 2,
it doesn't matter what type anyway the accusation is the main point, and I
believe it's used for chelation also, (this, I want to research more).
