Really, the best way to resolve this in your mind is to realize that
the magnetic pole at the North Pole of the earth really is the "North"
Pole.  It is also referred to as the "Negative" pole.  Use this as
your reference point for any further conclusions.

Any magnet, like a compass, that points to the North Pole of the
earth, is referred to as a "North Seeking Pole."  The "North Seeking
Pole" is actually a "South" pole since opposite poles attract, or
"seek" each other.
