Yes they will expel tapeworms. But only segments, which will hatch more of them. The main worm remains inside the animal. Any vet who says dogs don't need to be wormed for tapes should have his license pulled, IMHO. Fleas are one source, since they carry the eggs or the larvae (I forget which-I think the eggs). When the dogs bite themselves to itch, they ingest the fleas therefore the eggs. Getting rid of fleas will help, but you have to get rid of the tapes. Then in future, keep an eye on the dog's stool or behind. The segmants that break off will attach themselves briefly to the hair around the dog's rump. I guess all the vets I've had are wrong then. All mine have said there's no
need to worm for tape worms. There aren't many wormers that kill them, if any,
tho I haven't looked for it for yrs cause when the fleas are gone my dogs
expell the tapeworms. I've seen them. The one's that claim to do anything, say
they help expell them. I have used those to help get rid of them faster. Well,
I will check into this more definately.
