Dear Bob.
Just a comment or two that may be of value to you in
deciding
how to approach this problem.
Several years ago one of our lab technicians conducted some
rather interesting evaluations relating to the effects of H202 and Colloidal
Silver on the potential pathogens in surface contact........on various fruits
and
vegetables found in super-markets. After several attempts, he developed a
protocol which offered acceptable results in quantitative control----for a
majority of the plant substances evaluated.
Essentially, the protocol was as follows:
1. Green vegetables such as lettuce, broccoli, celery,
cabbage, etc., were rinsed with a conventional spray head, using tap water,
followed by a misting spray of 3.5% (standard grade) H202 and allowing at least
2
minutes for anaerobic bacteria control resolution.
2. A second spray rinse using tap water, followed by a generous
spray of 5 ppm Colloidal Silver. This solution was not removed and a minium of
15 minutes was allowed before a population census was conducted to determine
pathogen survival numbers. This simple protocol resulted in a better than 95%
control of all potential pathogenic agents we were able to isolate----prior to
the protocol being applied.
Since a majority of compromising difficulties arising within the
digestive tract do, in fact, have some relation to the "initial numbers" of most
pathogenic agents, we found such initial population reduction to be of high
consequence----especially from a prophylactic standpoint.
Interestingly, the protocol was quite effective in cases where
we
purposely contaminated these products with e-coli and several endamoebic
dysentary pathogens.
We investigated several other, more complicated, procedures but
none more effective for time/cost/effort expended.
Sincerely. Brooks Bradley.
