Hi Bob,

I notice that the positive electrode always turns black for a short
time, maybe a few minutes, before turning gray, while the layers
build up on the surface. I've always assumed it was an optical
effect of the sub-microscopic roughness of the silver surface as
atoms are sputtered off.

After a time, the positive electrode turns a dark gray, while the
negative electrode builds up it's usual fluffy gray stuff.

Is that what you see?
