Hi Mike.  Jeez it's nice to hear from you -- and see your name in the *from*
section of my mailbox!!  :-D

Yeah -- I got it that Larry isn't doing this intentionally.  And I think we're
all happy that the problem has been contained.  It wasn't a great big problem
to begin with, but when those things come through from the same person a couple
of times, it's noteworthy, and makes you at least wonder if they're sharing
something they think is worthwhile.  It made complete sense when Larry
explained that he wasn't purposely sending those -- we all got to see the
wonderful world of sneaky internet advertising at it's best!!

But I was curious about Larry's remarks.  I didn't understand them, first of
all.  And if he said what I think he said, I'm confused about the two programs
that he said were so good -- yet the malware got through anyway.  This was
particularly interesting to me at this point in time because I've been trying
to download free programs for virus and malware protection for my laptop (and
not having much luck).  And here's a big-time computer guy (Intel, no less --
wow) with what sounds like some pretty serious computer protection -- and spam
got through anyway.  If that's true -- there's NO HOPE for any of
us!!!!!!!!!!   Why am I spending my valuable free time trying to make my
computer accept a program that's not cooperating when it'll all be deafeated
anyway????

Boy -- computers are a blessing and a curse, aren't they?  Anyway -- I wasn't
trying to hassle Larry -- hope he understands that.  And if he's so inclined,
I'd still like to hear how he thinks the spam got past his efforts to block
it.  IF (great big letters there) he can explain it in such a way that us
computer dummies can understand it.  Can you imagine what Wayne would be having
to say about all of this????  :-)

OK -- "List Owner, out" -- but try to pop *in* more often, would ya?  We like
hearing from you.  (smile)

I sympathize, MaryAnn! <grin>

I've been in touch with Larry about this and it does appear to be, 1)
not intentional on his part, 2) a relatively well-contained problem
that should not cause us much problem long-term.

As near as I can interpret, his sister's computer got infected and the
mal-ware managed to stick his address on an e-mail and spam it to,
among others, the silver-list address. I got a private copy, too, if
it's any consolation to y'all! <smile>

If it gets severe, I'm sure Larry'll absent himself until things are
better. If not, I'll be here to... ahem... help him do the right thing.

List-owner, out!

Peace,

Mike D.
