thank you; a treasure trove of information.

Does the addition of ascorbic acid cause aggregation of silver microparticles?
  I have
In general any addition of an acid or base, changing the pH from 7.0 will increase aggregation. I have no information on ascorbic acid aka vitamin C though.

Im wondering what the effect might be with either citrus derived citric acid which has all of the other stuff in it. I am thinking in relation to the article that indicates that not only silver citrate but peptide conglomerations or bioconjugates are more effective. An interesting quote with an implication on the potential of success for the untrained layman shotgun approach;

the functional silver and peptide bioconjugation is a onestage technology for pre
paring conjugates of metal nanoparticles and biologi
cal molecules, which consists in reducing the silver
nitrate in the presence of peptides. In this case, the
peptides play the role of a stabilizer of the nanoparticle
surface. In the synthesis, a peptide solution (0.7 ml)
with a specified concentration was mixed with a 0.1 M
AgNO3 solution (0.1 ml). Then, a trisHCl buffer
(0.1 M, pH 8.6) was added, and the produced solution
was stirred for 15 min. Thereafter, a 0.1 M sodium
boron hydride solution (0.1 ml) was added dropwise.
The reaction was carried out for 4 h, followed by cen
trifugation at 40000 g for 2 h in order to separate the
nanoparticles conjugated with the peptide from the
unbound peptide.

This is new to me. I have no information or knowledge on this part.

Sorry, I see just a post or two before that David was making some silver citrate with silver oxide. It would be helpful if there was a condensed information page on basic home made colloidal silver. There was a person, Dr Kat, now deceased, who made some experiments and concluded that bubbling air while making silver created small silver colloid sizes. Im sure this air bubbling has been talked about many times already on the list, I should read the archives. The good Dr also started a vitamin purchasing coop that had very good prices. Anyway, it seems like all that air would oxidize or maybe even "nitric oxidize" the silver. Before I go trying to figure the whole thing out, maybe someone is kind enough to offer the basic gist. Another question is what happens when you add ascorbic acid to CS ....and hydrogen peroxide......I think this was a recommendation at one time....

Bubbling can be used a a cheap way to stir. It introduces CO2, increasing the amount of silver carbonate generate. In general it does not cause silver nitrate to form unless the air is quite polluted, or you are brewing in the middle of a thunderstorm.

Thanks for getting me up to speed on the basics!

This site talks about silver citrate as being more antibiotic then uncomplexed silver ions.

Not being a chemist, I wonder what the implication is. Can the simple addition of citric acid form silver citrate, or does it have to be silver oxide or more.... the above site seemed to indicate at least two pathways and they seemed a little complicated, I didnt try to tease them apart with my limited chemistry.

any ideas on this?
