Hi Lou. Thanks for your post. I need to make a clarification here, though -- I am not talking about a *notice from Paypal to update my account information*. I, too, have received those scam emails, and I simply delete them.
What I am talking about is a legitimate email from Paypal telling you that you are approaching your ten thousand dollar spending limit. If you follow up on this email by going to Paypal (never through a link, but by regular internet access), you will see the same information on your Paypal account page. And if you call Paypal by phone to inquire about this, they will tell you that this is correct -- that you have to verify your identity (because you have never come into their office and filled out an application form, etc. -- why would I need to do that?) My argument is that I've been doing business with Ebay and Paypal under the same name, address and phone number, and the same credit card number, for many years. If I wasn't who I say I am, wouldn't there have been a problem by now? My opinion -- they're asking for information that they're not entitled to, and do not need to know. If you haven't encountered this problem yet, you will when you reach their thresh-hold of ten thousand dollars. I too received a notice from PayPal to update my account information. When I called PayPal they told me that no such notice was ever sent by them. They informed me that any PayPal emails to me email would start with 'Dear My Name". The email I received was "Dear PayPal Customer". Be aware anytime someone tries to extract personal info online. Asside from the intro, the email look official as hell. Lou On Fri, Oct 19, 2012 at 12:51 PM, sol <[email protected]> wrote: I had no idea..........and no idea how close I am to the limit.
