The resistor in a simple colloidal silver generating circuit, perhaps 10K
ohm? (there is no such thing as a 10 Amp resistor) is a crude means of
current regulation. When you first start brewing CS, the brew is not very
conductive so that there is very little current through the resistor. Most
of the voltage appears across the brew jar and very little is dropped
across the resistor, as the current is so low (voltage drop is equal to the
current in amps time the resistance in ohms). Low conductance or low
current through the brew jar means high resistance in the brew cell. The
brew cell resistance changes over time as the process proceeds. When the
brew cell starts to draw more current as the CS solution becomes more
conductive, there is more voltage dropped across the resistor, so there is
less voltage left across the brew cell. This has the effect of initially
allowing a large voltage across the brew cell while the current conduction
is low in order to start the process faster, while still reducing the
current in a coarse way as the brew gets more conductive. This helps
somewhat to prevent what is sometimes referred to as current runaway when
brewing with a non- current regulated supply.
