A 3'x3' piece of 1/4" thick steel plate was put behind the smart meter. Another piece of 1/4" thick steel was put alongside the smart meter between the meter and a bedroom. The size of this piece was determined by the trajectory so that the room would be protected. It extends past the meter by some distance so that I was sure the room would be comfortable... and it is.
