Greetings and welcome, Kay! As others have said, silver will kill pretty much any bacteria it can get to, however our experience has been that as long as the consistency of the intestinal contents is normal, it doesn't have the mobility to *get* to enough of the friendly flora to disrupt things. That changes when you've got some process going on that causes the intestinal contents to liquefy. Then taking large doses of silver can get it in there to wipe out whatever baddies are messing things up. Then you should repopulate the gut just like you'd need to if you'd taken a course of antibiotics. In my experience, you can get by without the probiotics if you're not taking too much, but over the long haul, or if your using a lot for a short time to deal with something specific, then taking probiotics is wise and prudent. I did manage to wipe my intestinal flora once. The acute calcium deficiency I developed in the absence of the healthy bacteria that usually help us absorb it was really uncomfortable!
