The silver has to make contact to do anything. If it is locked up in a solid, it can't migrate to make contact and only that portion on the surface of the solid can do anything. If using CS locks itself up even more solidly, it's gonna do less. Perhaps that's your bodies way of preserving and defending that gut flora. If that isn't successful, an overburden of "bad" bacteria may grow which tends to make everything very loose and liquid...so CS will work more.
