St. Johns Wort is not, to my knowledge, dangerous in its own right. The
problem is, when you COMBINE it with toxic drugs, there can be unforeseen
repercussions.

 

BYI, SSRIs don't raise serotonin per se. They cause the body to recycle what
serotonin is already present. However, this in and of itself creates
problems on its own.

 

I strongly recommend a great book by Julia Ross called The Mood Cure. She
explains why supplementing with amino acids is safer and more reliable than
pharmaceuticals. She details which amino acid supplements you should take
under what circumstances, how they work and interact with the body, and the
kind of results you can expect.
