Not at all, Dennis. Germany has outlawed amalgam, effective Jan. 1, 2000,
but the good ole US of A still thinks mercury is a fine thing to put in the
human body, and in fact most health insurance carriers won't pay for
anything else. I use a holistic dentist who gets his composite (epoxy)
materials from Germany. We're systematically jackhammering out the amalgam
and pasting in the plastic.

Incidentally, amalgam fillings have some interesting side effects in
addition to mercury poisoning. They always leak, as there is no bond with
the carved-out tooth cavity except by pressure and friction -- it's jammed
in there, remember feeling that? The mercury helps kill bacteria for awhile,
but as the mercury leaches out of the amalgam (and into your blood), the
tooth begins to decay under the filling. A corrosive coating on the silver
prevents it from doing you any good. So, basically, when the mercury is no
longer poisoning you, the tooth rots. Not only that, but if your amalgam
contains zinc, as many do, the zinc oxidizes and as it does so it
crystallizes, which means it expands the way water does as it goes from
liquid to crystalline (ice) form. And your tooth cracks. Fortunately, my
dentist is a master at repairing those cracks with epoxy and saving teeth
that a mainstream dentist would relegate to root canal (another inadvisable
procedure).

Aren't you glad you asked?

Sam

We will tell you nothing. Ignorance will not be tolerated.
