Hi Jenny, I would suspect the glass as being contaminated with soap or a dishwasher detergent.
That is why I but the SOLO cup at the grocery store 18 for $1.80 and never have aproblem using them many times. I definitely do not believe that one can make a CS stronger that 1 or 2 ppm in 5 or 10 minutes using a battery unit.
