Back in the early 70's I had a kitten that got cought in a steel leg trap, all night one winter. The vet. wanted to do exploratory surgery. I found information in a Rodale book that, to me, said massive doses of vitamin E internally and externally. Cats paw went throught all the stages of gangrene and then I saw it chewing on it's paw. It pulled the dead skin off just like a little glove and underneath, the foot was pink and had tiny little white hairs growing out of it.
Here is the excerpt from Rodale Books inc., The Encyclopedia For Healthful Living, 1960, p992. Patient was given 500 units of vitamin E by mouth and a vitamin E ointment was applied.
