Tomato, Potato, Tobacco, Peppers and Petunias belong to the same deadly
nightshade family (Solanaceae)and contain many alkaloids(sometimes none) which
are harmful. All of them contain Solanin, the family identifier :-) However
the distribution of these alkaloids in various parts of the plant and their
concentration in those parts are two of the varible factors. Its these factors
which decide whether something is edible or not. BTW its my understanding
that there is more nicotine in the roots of the tobacco plant than its leaves
:-)

Onion belongs with lillies in the family Lilliaceae and Rhubarb (Rheum sp.)
belongs in the buckwheat family (Polygonaceae) See
<http://www.rhubarbinfo.com> good receipes here.

BTW a search on <http://www.google.com> will give you all sorts of info on
these (and others).

Harsha Godavari
