Hi Kent: It is pink because there is chlorine in the water that you used. The more chlorine, the pinker (or redder) it will get. You may have used tap water, or filtered water that did not remove all the chlorine. Several times we have found this same thing with certain brands of distilled water (that tells me that it was NOT true distilled water). suzy
