I'm no scientist, but simple observation and playing around have produced pink CS. When our CS is made with pure distilled water, it is a very clear light yellow color. When we tried a couple of batches of CS with tap water, to see what the differences would be, the CS would turn a very bright pink and get somewhat cloudy. When we made batches of CS with primarily distilled water, just adding a very small amount of tap water, the CS would turn pink (not always immediately either - but sometimes after sitting a day or two). We know our tap water has chlorine and fluoride in it. We just figured it was the chlorine, as adding a drop or two of chlorine to the distilled water, would consistently turn the CS pinkish within several days. We took 4 pint jars, using different "water" and then let it sit for a week to see what happened with the distilled, tap water, distilled with a drop or two of chlorine, and one with a mix of distilled and tap water. suzy
