Hi Kathy! Welcome to the fold. You probably want to describe your setup to us: how many batteries (or what voltage), electrode wetted length and spacing, size of glass, and whatever else... Then the gurus can give you more specific advice.
Different people tend to react differently to the taste. Some hardly notice it, while someone else drinking the *same* CS will think it tastes nasty. Usually, it can be described as a metallic, or sometimes burned taste. One thing I'm wondering about, though, is if you're possibly stirring the fuzzy coating that forms on the electrodes into the water? That could get some gross amounts of silver into the water that might taste stronger than usual. Kehoe's general strategy is about right for a simple generator. Cook for a while; you should see one electrode darken and the other turn grey and slightly fuzzy. When that starts to happen, take the electrodes out and wipe them off on a paper napkin or other lint-free cloth every 10 or 15 minutes, stir, and put them back in. As you go further, the interval between stirrings will decrease, and it will seem that the buildup is happening much faster. That's a good indication that you're about done. You're right not to push for high concentrations. Keep it simple. Using only distilled water with no salt or anything added to speed things up, it could take an hour or more to make a glass of CS. The one certain characteristic about CS made this way is that it's characteristics are *not* certain! <grin> However, it will be plenty good enough to give you a chance to experiment with it. An easy way to prove to yourself that it's working is to take a couple of cut flowers and put one in CS and the other in distilled water. Tell us in a week what they look like! Let us know what you try and if your results improve! Be well, Mike D.
