Ole Bobs system will certainly stir up a storm but the insulation alone
works quite well. Even if it is just a straight shaft, it will still stir
up a storm. The Radio Shack motor is DC and runs at 3v and way too fast at
that. You'll likely want to run it at about 1.5 volts or less. RS also
sells 5K potentiometers that work well in series with the motor. Get the
biggest one they have.
The DC motor will also run on half wave rectified AC [ a diode or two] but
RS also sell a rectifier bridge chip for a couple of bucks that does full
wave rectification.
Don't now what the effect of running low voltage AC is on a CS batch. My
first try was a disaster...made some jolly fine sludge and burned up a
rather large 24v doorbell transformer. Probably gave up too fast. Might
work OK with the proper controls.

Be aware that just because a transformer is rated at .9 amps doesn't mean
it won't put out more and burn itself up. You'll either need an external
current limiter or keep a close eye on the CS batch and shut dowm before it
becomes too conductive.

Be aware too, that the voltage rating is under load and a CS generator
doesn't load it up much unless it has run away. My 100 ma rated 24v AC
transformers peak out at around 80 volts with no load. Output voltage after
running it through several current control and other electronic
componants...including a 30v zener diode... is about 26v.
