Ivan says the following, which is what I was going to say if he didn't: > However, I am the first to say that it is practically impossible to > make a CS that is not effective, no matter how simple the generator... > I am not one who believes that particle size is of great importance, > 1nm or 50nm, it all seems to work... its just that the smaller the > particle size the more stable the colloid.
Especially for you newbies and lurkers, please keep in mind that the many details and refinements folks are talking about are merely proposed *improvements* or *alternatives* for a process that already works quite well, no matter what you do (almost!). He also notes: > I should also note, that when I measure CS I measure the ionic content > primarily because that is what I endeavour to produce. Which may also apply to some of the "instability" noted in some samples of CS. Agglomeration of ions into particles and particles into larger particles can all effect simple ionic concentration measurements. For instance, the popular Hanna PWT or TDS-1 meters both rely on ionic conduction for their "measurement". If some of your ions are turning into particles (or plating out on the container) then readings can change. All of this only results a certain level of uncertainty to the product that most of us are content to tolerate. You may not be able to know to the last "nth" what you've got, but if it works well it doesn't really matter if it isn't "perfect." It's more valuable to *try* making and using CS than it is to agonize over the perfect method. The simplest methods you'll learn about from our list members are more refined than what many of us started out with. We owe this to these same resident experts who are *still* working to help us make better CS. Thanks folks!
