Ah, well, the debate over the virtues of silver solutions (i.e. silver ions
dissolved in water) versus silver colloids (i.e. silver particles suspended
in water) is pretty heavy and long-running. Personally, I'm in the colloid
camp. All the chemistry I know indicates that as soon as a silver ion hits
the stomach and/or the bloodstream, it's going to combine with a chloride
ion to form insoluble silver chloride, which will then be excreted, either
through the intestinal tract or by the kidneys, depending on where it
forms. The ammonia hypothesis is bankrupt. So, AFAIK, virtually all
silver ions introduced into the body are wasted. The one place silver ions
might (MIGHT!) have some use is topically. Once the water evaporates
they'll form silver oxide, which is pretty inactive, but while the water is
still there they'll offer more silver activity since there'll be a greater
number of ions than particles. I don't know which way the balance will
tip, but since the water evaporates pretty quickly without some very
special preparations, I'd be inclined to suspect that a true colloid will
be more effective.
Anyway, I don't want to get into a flame war or anything, but I'd suggest
trying to tip your silver production towards particles -- i.e. towards
making a real colloid. In vitro experiments can be constructed to show
that silver solutions are more effective, but only if the experiments
aren't conducted in blood serum or in a medium resembling blood in all the
important respects.
