My 76 year old neighbor has shingles over 8 years ago. Obviously the
excruciating pain he has is the PHN. over a year ago he saw my improvement
with CS(not for shingles)and he bagan to drink 1 oz of CS per day. He didn't
notice any difference for over three months. He was feeling generally better,
but the pain was still unbearable. Then VERY SLOWLY he bagan to feel better.
The pain VERY GRADUALLY began to lessen. In fact, it was his wife who pointed
out to him the things he was doing that he could not do for over 7years. After
six months he bagan to use it topically on the painful spots. I can only
stress, it was over a period of a year that he VERY SLOWLY improved. He
practically kisses my feet whenever I see him, he is the most peppy, happy,
active 76 year old I know. Most of the men I know cannot keepup with him, now.
PATIENCE AND CONSISTANCY are the key.

There is such confusion on this subject that I would like to comment.

The pain is caused by the virus damaging the nerve connections specifically
the nerve endings, Killing the virus doesn't eliminate the pain it has caused.
Killing the virus only prevents it from causing further nerve damage and
therefore pain.

Altho the virus remains in the system (for life) it becomes dormant
again......until the next time. Ultimately, the body itself must repair the
damage.

So, if the virus is dormant, how is the CS going to eliminate the pain. The
pain is not a virus. The pain is not a bacteria.

I make and use CS myself. It certainly has it's uses and limitations. But
it's absurd for what some use it for.

Pain from the rash is not nerve damage and can be eliminated or alleviated by
topical treatment.
I would say this is what the plant sap does. I would definitely say it will
not repair or restore nerve damage. If it does, I will move heaven and earth to
get it.

Most shingles last about 5 weeks. Longer than that would be the PHN (post
herpetic Neuraligia) stage which may last for years. Currently
UCSFMC(University of California San Francisco Medical Center) is actively
researching this.

If shingles are treated very early, 2 weeks or less, steroids and anti virus
medication is usually effective.

Pain is the primary consideration for the treatment shingles. I was
considering a nerve block.

In the 6 months that I've had this affliction nothing conventional or
alternative that I've tried has worked.

Except a visiting monk to whomI was introduced. While we talked he was
sending out energy. All the pain was gone. I was elated. I was cured. However,
2 hrs after I got home, the pain came back.

I had one more session with him before he left town. Again the pain was
gone.....and came back again. I would like to think that if I had more time
with him he might have been able to effect a cure.

I'm tired and have written more than I should.

I think the article states otherwise: "The microbiologist says the sap
works by
permeating the nervous system cells to kill the herpes zoster virus
eradicating
the pain, and any possibility of recurrence." This tells me it eliminates
the
    virus from the NS.
