Hasn't it got a lot of B vitamins in it? Maybe it's the B-3.

Hi~
Brewer's yeast keeps fleas away from cats so it seems like it might also
protect people from mosquitos, but when you figure how much more we weigh
than a cat, it might take an awful large quantity of it. When we first got
cats, the fleas were terrrible. I read about giving them brewer's yeast to
solve the problem, but it just made the fleas leave the cats and eat us
instead. But for the last 8 years we have not had any problem with fleas, we
don't even use flea collars. I start mixing 1/4 tsp. of brewer's yeast in
each cat's canned food each morning. I do this every day until we have had
snow or enough cold weather that flea season is over. It makes the cat taste
or smell bad to the fleas and they stay away. But you must get it built up
in their body before flea season starts.
