Christie, I too am new to making and using CS but I do have one bit of information you may find useful. I use (3) 9 volt batteries and have an ammeter in the circuit. I make 32 oz. batches in my mayonaise jar. Digital ammeters can be cheap. I had one anyways. I use the Faraday calculator to estimate how many PPM I have. I too do not have the funds to have it checked or for a possibly useless IMO conductivity tester. The Faraday calculator can be found at http://silverdata.20m.com/faradaycalculator.html. It takes one hour with a 25% seeded start from previous batch. I am going to be getting an air bubbler but have not used one yet. I do get some sludge and it is filtered out. My CS after a few days is a faint yellow. Hope this helps.
Has anyone else used and had verified the Faraday calculator to be resonably accurate? One question I do have is do I add the apx. PPM from my previous batch to the final calculated PPM?
