Many water filtration systems use commercially available charcoal filters; the
best are supposed to be the carbon block style, and made from wood products 
rather
than coal.  These systems can be found at hardware stores, on the web, Home
despot, etc., and have two or three cartridge holders which hold the replaceable
filters.
