When I posted a similar question I was told to use distilled water--not tap water, reason given was not that it hurts the animal, but the CS combines with salts in the tap water to make silver chloride, etc, (hope I remember that rightly), and that makes it considerably less effective, which means (to me) that in mixing CS with tap water a lot of the CS is wasted.
