Hi Kim,

It's hard to come up with a simple answer. The bottom line is you'll
not harm yourself no matter which way you do it, the total quantities
involved are so small. It may be more or less effective, but silver is
so good that even if you screw it up some it'll still kill germs.

In the bad old days we used to use a "pinch" of salt or a drop of
saline added to our distilled water as a "starter" for making CS more
quickly. It worked, for sure, in that it only took a few minutes to
make a batch, with visible clouds coming off the anode and rapid
bubbling around the cathode.

However, we were making a good deal of silver chloride and other
compounds, it had much larger particle size than we're used to now, and
it would fall out of suspension in a week or two. Still, it worked well
enough to get a lot of people excited about CS.

If you add salt to your CS the ions will react, forming silver chloride
which will precipitate to form particles. This is the basis of Mike
Monett's "salt test." So, at the very least, you'll want to make it up
as you need it to cope with its very short shelf-life.

Will it still be effective? Probably. More comfortable? Yes!

I've flooded my sinuses with CS made in distilled water before and,
believe me, if they're already inflamed it stings like the dickens!
Usually I only needed one application to head off an infection and kill
the sinus headache, so it was still worth it.

If you can tolerate plain CS, use it. The silver still will react with
your tissues and turn into nobody-knows-what... But that's how we use
the stuff anyway. It works, if people's experiences are to be believed.

So, if you can take it, use plain CS. If you want more comfort by
using salt, make it up as you need it and see how it goes.

This has been my experience. Let us know how it goes for you?

Be well,

Mike D.
