Hi:
The wire used by Bob Beck was 14-16 Ga., 130-160 Turns.

The test washer was a fender washer : 1.0 diameter with 1/8 hole. this type of washer will jump much higher than a smaller one. When placed 1/2 inch off center in a 35 watt-second strobe it will jump 12 inches.

Do remember that the magnetic field produced by the coil is proportional to the mean coil radius, so using a larger wire gage, or larger inside diameter, than that needed to match the rest of the electronics will result in a weaker field.

The capacitors were 330 VDC, 600uF,
                                450 VDC, 600uF
Some of the present machines have a peak current of 150 Amps.
