An MD friend of mine sent the following on shingles. Since I've never heard that shingles was a condition that usually only occurs once, like the related chickenpox, I decided to post his remarks on possible immune system implications. Deborah ++++++++ In response to the testimonial about recurring shingles: I wonder if this person's illness is really shingles. As far as I know, people generally get shingles once in their lives. It's possible to have them more than once, but "recurrent shingles may indicate an underlying problem with the immune system such as leukemia, Hodgkin's disease, other cancers, atopic dermatitis, HIV infection, or AIDS." I bring it up as a possibility because there is no mention of underlying disease which would be unusual if the person had one of these.
