Ag particle size is one issue with the Smurf Senator. He was probably consuming lots of silver compounds as well.
For those not familiar with the story, pictures of him circulated on the web with about a 20% cyan Photoshop filter laid on his face. In reality, he showed faint tinge of grey on part of his eyelids. He had been drinking lots of tap water-generated discolored CS/godknowswhat gunk for over a year. To say that he was taking a silver colloid is not true. He was taking a mixture of unknown content that probably included some true colloidal silver. There is still no known case of Argyria from pure electro-produced colloidal silver. Stan Jones (the Senate-candidate with coffee-colored CS) dissolved silver wires into water using DC electricity. Isn't that *colloidal* silver? The fact that the particles were very large doesn't disqualify it from being 'colloidal'. A colloid is a particle of something that is in suspension in a medium - in this case, water - that neither floats to the top nor sinks to the bottom. The fact that the water wasn't DW doesn't negate the 'colloidal' status. Yes, there were other silver (and non-silver) particles also in the water that were too large to stay in suspension and therefore would not be considered to be 'colloids', and yes, I would expect that it was these extra large particles that were responsible for his argyria. Never-the-less, considering Stan Jones, the FDA might argue with us about the statement that Colloidal Silver has never been shown to cause argyria. Mr. Jones did indeed drink colloidal silver, and he apparently has argyria. I think we may need to refine our definition to stipulate "colloidal silver made with silver particles smaller than *** have not been implicated in any case of argyria." As someone on this list observed, there are no doubt other factors that affect a person's vulnerability to argyria, such as certain types of deficiencies (selenium, Vit E), or certain disease conditions (liver problems), or even the state of their immune system. Since there is no great money potential to be found in colloidal silver, any research to find the answers to these questions will need to be conducted by non-professionals or professionals of an unusual dedication. There have been so few documented cases of argyria caused by any form of silver as to make it one of the most unlikely problems to fear. You are statistically far more likely to get hit by a car, or lightning, and far, far, far more likely to get cancer or heart disease (or diabetes, or arthritis, etc.). More people die from aspirin each year than the total number of cases of argyria in all of medical history. ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca -- The Silver List is a moderated forum for discussing Colloidal Silver.
