You might want to try tetrasil for shingles. This is an ointment that delivers silver into the affected area and is also supposed to release oxygen. We have not used it for shingles, but have found it very effective for other viral and bacterial infections. Others have reported success using it against shingles. Check the following reference:

My wife is even using it to clear up stubborn whiteheads (although this takes a lot of time and persistence).
