In Ayurveda herbal medicine, garlic is heating. So, if someone tends to have
plenty of "fire" already, it can cause heartburn and other problems.

You had no problem with heartburn after ingesting raw garlic on an empty
stomach? I get it even when I have garlic with food.

Actually, I've found that if you don't let the chopped garlic sit in your
mouth (or swirl/chew it in with water) you don't need to be "deodorized" or
live alone. :-)

I quickly mince a fresh clove, put it on a spoon, then on my tongue &
immediately wash it straight down like a vitamin. Don't chew it, don't let
it touch your cheeks. I heard somewhere (I think it was Alton Brown's Good
Eats, actually) that it's the volatiles (there are 2) that are released from
the garlic layers & blend together in the first few seconds of mincing. This
is exactly the moment that garlic should be ingested for maximum effect. I
used a clove every morning for 3 months to assist in getting rid of candida
overgrowth...no one knew. :-) You don't burp garlic doing it this way
either...I should know; I did this on an empty stomach every day. It worked
wonders and I also had no discernable body odor during this time...while I
had the candida overgrowth/imbalance, the BO was present.

Just my .02 cents...
Heather

Raw garlic is quite good for colds.

Before CS when I felt a cold coming on I could often stop it by chopping up
a large garlic clove and mixing it in a quarter to half cup of water and
chugging it down. Well, you get garlic breath, but it seems to work pretty
well. It does kill viruses...

If you are by yourself, you can take as much as your system can stand...
