I spent a few days with some nomadic camel herders in the Sahara
in Morocco some years ago. Very nice people. They also drink very
little - for good reason, as water is a scarce commodity. Mostly
they drink green tea with mint. I had to pick some gear up from a
nearby town, and used a western-style toilet. I remember noticing
how my pee was a dark yellow, colour, so it formed a separate
layer below the water in the pan. I felt perfectly healthy
though.
The alternative health movement these days holds it as axiomatic
that we should all drink more water - the body's many cries for
water etc. So though Himagain's comments may seem like blasphemy
to some, he is quite right about the Bedouin, so I wonder a bit
whether drinking gallons of water every day, as I have in the
past, is really necessary.
Best wishes,
Paul H
I wonder what a Bedouin would say to all this??? :-)
Davido, if you are - as it sounds - even more sedentary than
most - how could you even think of drinking that amount of
liquid - especially Gatorade+CS????
Of course, Americans are the most intoxicated people on the
planet, and second only to Australians in meat eating, but the
amount of liquids most Westerners take in per day is
frightening.
There is a weird belief that "lotsa water is betta" which I
think must have come from the Cola companies, who knew that
most people would want sugar in it "just for the taste".
If you gave up all the sugar and salt it is amazing how little
liquid you will want.
We used to have a hard time convincing Cancer-sufferers to stop
drinking liquids. It is so conditioned into us that facts and
intelligence are simply overwhelmed.
Simple fact, FACT: don't drink with your meals. Not 20 mins
before, not 20 mins after and you double the value of extracted
nutrients from your meal.................. (commonsense?)
Himagain - Who REALLY understands - was brought up believing I
had to drink gallons "because of the Oz sun". Then I went and
lived with the Aborigines....... then I met
Bedouins.............
