Just goes to show how "common name" terms vary from region to region, and maybe family to family. We always called the liquid inside a coconut "coconut milk". I've heard it called coconut "water" too.

I have NEVER heard that "oil" is the water or "milk" inside of the coconut. The coconut water is "water" or "milk." Coconut oil is made from pressing the "meat" of the coconut (which adheres to the inner shell), which has a very high fat content.

You can learn more at: http://www.tropicaltraditions.com/ They make incredible raw, organic coconut products, and explain everything.
