< i've read that distilled water only stays alkaline for a very short period of time and so by the time it's bottled and placed on store shelves, it's no longer alkaline... i've also read that for the simple purpose of drinking the water, you can simply add some freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice to bring some alkalinity back... or to add some drops of ph solution... innerlight's prime ph product consists of sodium chloriTe (NOT chloriDe) ion as sodium (5%)... without getting too much into the chemistry of it all, is this something that can help out with CS making? is it safe/unsafe? > <TIA > < dc > Hi DC. Interesting you should ask. Technically, distilled water should have a pH of 7.0, which is neutral -- neither acid or alkaline. But most DW is on the acid side, some more and some less. The reason distilled water is acidic is that it's so volatile, it instantly reacts with the carbon dioxide in the air to form carbonic acid. I make my own distilled water with a good machine. The moment it's made, I test it. It always tests at 6.2, which is quite acidic. (6.2 may not seem that acidic to some people who drink coffee or soda -- here we're talking 4. and 3. something, and possibly even lower -- but it's much too acidic for *me*. A pH of 7.0 is neutral, and I'm not even comfortable with *that*.) Each number on the pH scale is exponential. So 6.7 is ten times more acidic than 6.8, 6.6 is ten times more acidic than 6.7, etc. That's why the amount of alkaline water you have to drink to balance your system is huge compared to the little bit of acidic fluid you drank that unbalanced your sytem in the first place. Natural Immunogenics, which makes rather pricey colloidal silver, recognizes how bad for the health acidic water can be. They cover the distilled water with a layer of argon gas to prevent any carbon dioxide from getting in, and THEN they make their CS. I have used Inner Light's sodium chloriTe for a long time. While it does alkalize the system (and no, according to my research and empirical testing it's not harmful), it takes a LOT to get the pH of distilled water -- and thus the colloidal silver that is made with the distilled water -- back into the alkaline range. So, in my quest to make my CS alkaline (some of you on this list may remember my quest a year and a half ago), I finally settled on pharmaceutical grade potassium hydroxide. (That and sodium hydroxide are used to make soap.) I made sure to get pharmaceutical grade so I could ingest it. It sure raised the pH -- but the CS, and my water too (which I distill because it's so acidic and has contaminants in it) tasted like crap. Recently I found something called "Okalani Catalyst Water." It's made by a company called LifeWave and it's much less expensive than Inner Light's sodium chloriTe in how much you need to raise the pH of fluid. I love the Okalini water; it makes my regular water taste smooth and sweet -- an unforgettable experience. I put the Okalani into my CS, too; and this eases my mind that I'm not drinking acidic water. To learn more about the Okalani water, go to: http://www.lifewave.com/nenahsylver I will say this up front: this is an MLM, which besides the Okalani water has remarkable non-transdermal energy patches. But please contact me off-line if you're interested. Back to the acid-alkaline issue: Nearly every health professional I talk to, and all the research I've read, says that alkaline water is better for you than acidic water -- and that in fact, acidic water can cause all sorts of health problems. I think it's a good idea to treat the CS with SOMETHING to raise the pH. But DON'T put it in before you make the silver solution -- put it in *afterward,* or else you won't be able to make a viable colloidal silver product. Oh, by the way, there's an article about water and minerals on my website. It's an excerpt from my Rife Handbook.
