OOOOH, ouch! Straight CS as sinus wash, nose drops, or eye drops, stings me beyond my tolerance. Adding a little DMSO, say around 2 to 5 % actually makes it more comfortable for me, plus it gets the CS into the tissues and through any mucous to where the microbes hide in the sinuses. That is the idea, anyway.

That said, the last time I had to try this, I could not seem to eradicate the viral part of the infection no matter what I did/used. However, I never got any secondary bacterial sinus or lung infections.

Also might want to try adding Xylitol to your CS instead of DMSO, it is supposed to help with the mucous but I forget exactly how.

P.S. Because I am quite susceptible I have made a practice of never putting anything in the refrigerator without wiping it off with vinegar and peroxide, I even wipe things off before opening and re-bagging re-packaging. My husband made so much fun of me for doing this that I stopped. He now has a very bad cold and sore throat which he came down with during a period when he wasn't around other people, so my best guess is he got it off unwiped bottles and packages. I can tell I am under attack, but I haven't caught it yet. I don't think he is going to make fun of me anymore, though. I'm feeling pertty dumb for stopping such an easy helpful thing by letting myself be embarrassed about my precautions.

Andy, read the Walgreen label. If it is a saline solution the chloride in it will precipitate the silver ions and it will be useless.

Just put the CS in each nostril and keep the head lower than the knees for several minutes and rotate it side to side to get the CS in all of the sinus cavities. It will sting alittle but not bad. "Ole Bob"
