N.A.C. (N-Acetyl-Cystein), in a nebulized form, can be obtained with or without
a doctor's prescription. Use with a good quality nebulizer.

If you don'thave access to a nebulizer, you can also try the oral form, by
reducing dosage by perhaps 1/4 for a 5 year old (perhaps 100mg or so, most
capsules contain 500 or 600mg each by default).

NAC is known to be extremely helpful to the lungs. I forget the exact
mechanism, but I believe it was thought to break up mucous. In any case, it
supposedly works very well, asthmatics used to use it until the brochodialotors
came around and they figured that asthma was basically "brocho-contriction",
rather than mucous build-up.

Also, give her extra high dose of vitamin C (perhaps 1 or 2 grams twice a
day), selenium (perhaps 50 micrograms once a day, as "selenomethionine" or
"monomethionine", NOT "selenite" version), and vitamin E (perhaps 50-100 IU of
"natural" E, as "d-alpha" tocopherol, NOT dl-alpha, once a day). I'm
mentioning these particular vitamins, because of this...

If that wasn;t enough, high doses of GSE (grapefruit seed extract, NOT
"grape" seed) has helped my wife about 3 times over bronchitis that followed
colds in about 3 days. She had to take about 2-3 capsules (they held about 37
drops each) of liquid a day to do it. For a child, I suspect 20 might be an
equivalent. You could divide that up into 2 doses a day, at 10 drops, by just
mixing it with a glass of orange juice.

I would suggest trying only 1 of these 3 ideas at a time. If the child were
older, I might be more bold.
