Thanks Edith. This is interesting. Because of this topic I've taken a really
close look at my nails and note that two of my fingers, at the base near the
half moon in the nail I have ridges that are just beginning to form. They are
the two ring fingers on each hand. Other nails are not affected, except for the
white spots which I know are from not ingesting enough Zinc whose importance,
simple as it may seem is as follows, quite complex and cannot be underestimated
are it is immune function related.

It's also probably my lack of Zinc that I have not been able to fully shake the
lingering effects of a flu/chest cold I caught about 2 months ago. The white
spots have been forming since then.

I do not eat with regularity enough foods from the groups high in Zinc as I
avoid food groups with Tails. BTW, one of the symptoms of hair loss (in woman -
sorry guys - nothing to do with male pattern baldness) is also a lack of Zinc.

I tend to think that people because of other problems like high cholesterol,
diabetes, and digestive problems. tend to avoid these food groups also. What
is also interesting (at least to me) is that in Chinese Medicine, the ring
fingers represent the San Jao, also known as the Triple Burner and are
associated with digestive processes. For me, it makes sense. One of the main
reasons I do not eat meats (even though I buy hormone free, organic grain fed
for my son) is that I have difficulty digesting them .

In your case, it took 4 years from the first appearance of the ridges for the
symptoms/problems to progress and manifest and from your post, seem to point to
digestive problems...and the Triple Burners.

Zinc: What is it?
Zinc is an essential mineral that is found in almost every cell. It
stimulates the activity of approximately 100 enzymes, which are substances
that promote biochemical reactions in your body (1,2). Zinc supports a
healthy immune system (3,4), is needed for wound healing (5), helps maintain
your sense of taste and smell (6), and is needed for DNA synthesis (2). Zinc
also supports normal growth and development during pregnancy, childhood, and
adolescence (7, 8). What foods provide zinc?
Zinc is found in a wide variety of foods (2). Oysters contain more zinc
per serving than any other food, but red meat and poultry provide the
majority of zinc in the American diet. Other good food sources include
beans, nuts, certain seafood, whole grains, fortified breakfast cereals, and
dairy products (2,9). Zinc absorption is greater from a diet high in animal
protein than a diet rich in plant proteins (2). Phytates, which are found in
whole grain breads, cereals, legumes and other products, can decrease zinc
absorption (2, 10, 11).(Refer to Table 1: Selected Food Sources of Zinc
lists a variety of dietary sources of zinc.)

 Edith,
If you don't mind my asking. The nails on all the fingers, or just a few. In
other words, just one hand, both hands, same same fingers on each hand if not
all the fingers, which ones. Thanks.

I first noticed one bad place on one nail back in the early 90s. I really
didn't think too
much about that. In 1994 I became very ill with something. I felt terrible
all the time,
everything I ate caused extreme stomach pain and if it didn't cause pain, I
would bloat under my rib section to the point where i thought I would explode.
I started loosing my hair to the point of over half being gone. I went to
several
doctors and they didn't have a clue but one did give me medication. After
taking those
6 weeks, I was in worse shape and by now everything I ate made me feel
terrible in one way or another. (i quit those meds)

I had seen a tape by george Malkmus of Hallalujah Acres so I dragged out
my juicer and lived on that for months. I was working so saw a doctor my
daughter was
acquainted with to moniter me and give me an excuse for work when I couldn't
go. Within 8 months all of my hair grew back and I could eat a little more of
simple foods.... raw or steamed, some fruit et.

By then the ridges were pretty much on all nails. My thumb nails look like
cordaroy. The rest do not look as bad but the middle finger on right hand
is pretty ridged. I then met some people that knew about RBTI (Dr Carey Reams).
They told me about the digestive issue which went along with all of my
problems.
I am much, better but because I do not follow their dietary advice 100% of the
time,
I am so much better but still have some digestive issues. In other
words...I'm not
as disciplined as I should be. Edith
