Carol Ann,

At the end of WWII my father was able to acquire several pieces of
silverware from the officers mess of a decommissioned ship. They are bowls
and a coffee server, with a long black wooden handle They simple, very
well made, and solid as a battleship. They are no doubt an alloy, as they
are obviously harder and less ductile than pure silver. When I get a
chance, I will look up the thermal properties of silver and do a search for
related information.

Sorry, Jim. I have never heard of .9999 silver cookware. Probably too soft,
not practical. I am sure that it would have been used historically. I have
only known it to be used for serving. ie plates, creamers, etc.

Seriously, how about silver cookware? Expensive? Sure, but it is a viable
investment at present. How does . 0.999 handle? The handle(s) could be SS.
There could be a SS or CI cradle for the thing to prevent banging it up on
the stovetop.

Maybe that would be enough, and we could get enough just from our normal
cooking. Couldn’t hurt, and might be all most need most of the time.

Any thoughts?

"Walmart definately sells cast Iron cookware. I saw it in my local store
last time I was there, as well as other stores, in many sizes."

stainless steel pot yes, but not stainless steel frying pan, i know i tried.

While surfing the net to see if I could find out if anodized steel has the
same inherent problems as the others, I came across a site that has
stainless steel frying pans:

http://www.chefdepot.net/stockpots.htm

I also saw a site that describes Teflon as a serious killer of birds such as
canaries, parrots, and others exposed to it. But the official FDA site
stated in no uncertain terms that Teflon is safe at the temps people usually
cook at. (Of course. I suppose Dupont and! other Teflon makers are as big
in lobbying as the aspartame industry.)
