I'm concerned about allergy shots too, but they have really helped. I took
them when about 6 for a while, again at 25, then again at 30, then around 38.
I used to have miserable allergies to trees, grasses, weeds, mold, and
cats..... stuffy, running nose, and itchy eyes. It was awful trying to work
with Actifed putting me to sleep (they had no non-drowsy antihistamines then).
I started again taking them at 53 when I found out my daughter was going to
have a baby and I knew I'd be going to see her more often. They have
effective cat vaccine now. I developed a cat allergy when we had mother,
father and 6 kittens living in the house when I was 24. My daughter has two
cats. I used to get asthma and felt like I had a bad cold when we'd go to
visit for a few days. Twice I've had asthma from staying in motel rooms where
someone must have had a cat. Now, three years of shots later, when I visit,
I have very few allergy symptoms, without even taking any asthma inhalers
(my eye doctor won't allow them). I asked the nurse if allergy shots
contain thimerasol, but she'd never heard of it. I decided that since I could
be dead of an asthma attack if I don't take the shots, It's better to just
stick my head in the sand.

I still get hay fever problems occasionally, and my daughter and I find that
sodium ascorbate (vitamin C) helps tremendously. 1/2 teaspoon of the crystals
mixed in juice provides 2 grams of vitamin C with very little in the way of
gastrointestinal problems. I haven't found it in a store, ...we use Source
Naturals brand. It works within minutes to help clear the sinuses.

Another thing that I found helped is CS. Besides drinking an ounce or so
mixed with Gatorade, putting a few drops into the nostrils helped clear them
right away.
