I know this is not really on topic, but Mike M. has struck a nerve with me
as well. Washers and dryers are a RACKET! I could go on and on about what
I've done to keep both appliances running to keep a family of six in clean
clothes. There are no good answers. If you buy cheap ones you get ill
designed junk that falls apart in no time. If you buy expensive ones you get
electronics troubles. You just wouldn't believe your eyes if you could see
what I've done to a $1000 Maytag Neptune to keep it operating. If I could
find the guy that approved that thing for market, I'd strap it to his back
and start shooting at his feet to make him dance!

For a washer, there is one option- a Staber, which will be my next purchase.

V has hit on an important point. We had a situation where we knew that our
dryer was sucking out warmed/cooled air faster than we could pay the power
bill. I sealed every external crack and crevice on the dryer; I built an air
intake pipe & flange to go over the main air intake vent; I connected that
pipe to dryer exhaust tubing that ran to the attic to pull in air that was
full of wasted heat. Our power bill showed the effort.

Hi Sickleave48045,

Another thing to watch on dryers is the ventilation, if you have a pretty
tightly sealed house then air flow can be a problem, a dryer is vented to
the outside and it needs a contiuous supply of fresh air to do this, if it
is in an air tight room it will stop the flow of air and the heat will build
up real fast, I would say this is probably one of the main causes.

Take care,
 V
