There are various models. Newer ones allow the user to choose pH as I described.

Older models like mine work the way you describe, though even my old unit can put out acidic water from the main tube: this setting is to clean out calcium deposits in the normally alkaline tube, to keep it from clogging up.

Newer models are remarkable and flexible.

In any case, when making alkaline water, one can catch the runoff acidic water and use if for various purposes; washing one's face and hands is a common use. But I don't now what the pH of the runoff is; I have not checked.

I have seen videos showing that this has been done also using acidic

choose the pH, from around 2.6 up to 10, I think.

You actually choose the alkalinity from about 8 to about 12, and the device
puts out an alkaline flow in one tube and an acid flow in the other.
Therefore for the acid side, you get what you get, that is as you increase the alkalinity from 8 to 12, the acid will increase from about 6 down to probably 2 or 3, although this probably depends a great deal on the initial
water's composition and pH.
