You said this like you expected "off list" communications.
With Mikes permission, I would like to see the discussion on list.
Looking at the last 100 or more messages, it has been a hardware and
electronics list anyway. This almost suggests we need a
Silver Hardware and Technical list as well.
Even though you mentioned "Flow Thru" system, it was the term
"Injector" that got my attention.
The water his animals drink is from a constantly flowing source of
water (like drinking from a stream), so it wouldn't be
practical to try to put CS into that water.
Unless it is a stream, and is in fact a piped system, it would be
very easy to inject CS into the water.
Injector systems have been perfected for years and the technology is
refined to a science.
Absolute ppm can be controlled with no experimenting, no guesswork
and no hassle. Some injectors are adjustable and others are
fixed. They have to be matched to flow rate.
The accepted world standard in some fields is "Anderson Injectors".
By using the injector method, the CS system could be build and
installed without all the tweaking and experimenting required for a
flow thru system. The injector systems last for years using materials
much more corrosive than CS.
I have a friend who has a mink ranch, and his whole
operation is being threatened by what he calls a
Rotovirus.
Interesting stories exist dating back into the 1940's relative
to mink ranches being infected with mad cow.
He
prepares what is essentially a food mash each day
using about 160 gallons (500-600 pounds) of water,
which flows from a tank and is mixed with the dry
food. This would be the opportunity to add CS.
In this case, working with a batch, not continuos, he could just
measure it and dump it in. Or if he had a large tank, a specific
number of minutes flow would provide a reasonably accurate
volume. He could work manually while perfecting the automatic
system and get immediate results.
I used to fill a 500 gallon tank with water for nutrient solutions.
I got tired of checking the tank, so I used a valve and computer
program, based on a timed flow. It was amazingly accurate.
I could type in 100 gallons and walk away. I used this as long as I
used the bulk tank.
How can
this friend of mine set up a way to brew CS as it
flows into the holding tank?
That is the only hard question.
Matching that to a specific flow rate will take the best minds and
even then, some experimentation. Of course the ppm does not have to be exact.
Nevertheless, if he had a tank full of CS or known ppm, he could
inject it into the known flow rate with amazing accuracy.
The fixed injectors cost less but I feel he could justify the cost of
the adjustable injectors.
This is a very interesting issue and I hope most discussions are on list.
If I knew the date, I could find those older messages in my archives.
