Morning Cindy,

When you say, "List Server" you have said a mouthful. Most people have not a clue what the word means.

Give Mike the credit he disserves.

Two or three of us pointed out the source of the problem.

Man built the computer. He made some mistakes.
The Super large files have problems on any computer.
The way the operating system reads and writes files is subject to error.

That is why, if you have a file worth more than $ .05 ........ you back it up, and do it again and again.

If you back up a bad copy, you can ruin a good copy.

If you don't learn to understand files and file management, you disserve to loose your data, and you will.

Regarding the Archives being down,

The archives are not "Down". They have disappeared.

I have for some months to years saved what I thought was valuable information from the Silver List in a Health file on Word.

You are doing that the hard way, slow, primitive, and what about a search feature? Better than nothing for sure.

I keep files that are like this..........

Silver 2001
Silver 2002
..........
Silver 2005
Silver 2006
and so forth.

I can search one of these or all of them simultaneously, by 5 complex criteria.

I started by keeping items together on one page, and have now progressed to have a variety of subject folders such as Acne, ACV, Arthritis, etc. And really, even if the Archives weren't down, I want to have this stuff where I can re-read it.
Better than nothing I suppose, but you could get a mail program that saves every message that comes in, with no effort from you.

Why not? If you value this information.

I don't post much and I'm not having enough time to read all the digest mail I get,

Why do the digest? That seems to make matters worse.

but this list and the helpful people is outstanding. There is a certain amount of discomfort in not reading all my mail because I know once I delete it, valuable information is basically forever lost to me. :((

Why delete it? Hard drive full?

I too am hoping for the time when our wonderful leader will find us a new home other than at Eskimo.

A misconception at best. Eskimo does a good job with a near impossible task.

I feel that Mike understands the problem or he would have moved the list long ago.

Your statement does not do Mike justice or give him the credit he disserves.

Back to server definition.

I sold a server that had 12 hard drives. Two Cases.
Each individual housing for each hard drive cost $ 125.00 each.
The controller board for the drives cost $ 2000.
The Ram chips cost $ 8,000.
The operating system cost $ 20,000 due to the number of users.
It served several states.

Each drive could be unplugged and replaced with the computer running, No data was lost. ( called Hot Swapable )

Subject to failure, .......... yes. But not often.
Anything man builds can and will fail.

Do the job on your end and you won't have to worry about Mike and the Eskimo server. <grin>

This whole smear is a re run of what happened several years back, ....... people do not know how to manage their mail and files.

I set up a "Mailhelp" list at that time and helped several people to do a better job. I could solve all the problems and help those that did not use "Web Based Email". They are beyond help because Web Mail is a piece of junk that cannot possibly do a decent job and cost the user 50 to 100 times more effort and time as Genuine Email.

I rest my case and I am not picking on you. It just seems like a good time to say the things I did.

Wayne
